Where do I belong?
Serving, helping out, volunteering is less about trying to fit in somewhere, and much more about finding where you belong based on what passions you have and what God has put inside you to be a bigger part of the community around us. You are unique, and the opportunity we have for you is unique. There are general departments that we have that are specific to a Sunday or during the week, but in all areas, our goal is connection and serving people. And we are more than confident that you will find where you BELONG in all of it. Let’s do this!
I’ll help get the room(s) ready
Setup / Teardown - our team that takes time every Sunday to get the room and atmosphere ready for everyone that visits on a Sunday morning. From the Welcome area, HEARTkids, as well as the Main Area!
I’m a people person!
If you love meeting and talking with people, if you love hosting people in your home or you get your energy from social events, then the Welcome Team could be a great place for you! You’ll welcome people as they walk into THEHEART. Or, you can talk to new guests throughout the week and give them all the juice on what’s going on at THEHEART!
You can learn to create!
When it comes to things that people think they are bad it, one of the top ones is “being creative”. Almost no graphics or slides or posts created at THEHEART are done by professional designers. They have all been created by people like you, that have taken the time to learn how to create and taken risks along the way. You can explore your creative side, all while helping further the mission and vision of THEHEART!
Are you available during the week?
Some people do want to help, but Sundays can be tough to make happen! You may have a busy Sunday schedule, or that day is best spent with family. Either way, maybe you have time to help during the week! From admin work, connecting with teams, and helping with events and projects, we have plenty of opportunities for you to serve outside of just a Sunday.
Do you love working with kids?
When we started THEHEART, it was important for us to know that we were creating a place for families, not just college students. That means putting effort and resources into our kids at THEHEART! If you love working with kids and building the future of our community then you have found your place!
Reach out to your community
Sundays aren’t the only time to serve, and church isn’t the only place that it’s important to do what we can for our community. The people around us matters just as much! From city events to river clean up, if you love to be out and about in the City of San Marcos, you can be a part of our community outreach team: HC Impact
You can express yourself!
We have a thriving tech and music team at THEHEART. Many people are nervous to volunteer for it because they don’t feel they would know enough. Everyone serving in all of these areas have learned to do what they are doing here at THEHEART on site. From running the screen on Sundays, making sure the sounds is great for the room and online, and even playing an instrument. If you love expressing yourself at home, then you may love it on Sundays!

We don’t have a category for everything, because your passions are unique. And, as we said above, serving is not about finding a place that you can fit in, it’s about discovering where you belong. Let us know what you’re thinking, we’re here to help you find a place that you love!
SERVE FAQ
We know that if you didn’t grow up in church, or it’s been a while since you have been to church, you may not know that the entire Sunday experience and everything throughout the week is taken care of purely by people who volunteer their time and their talents. It’s people like you that say “Yes!” to volunteering, to helping, to serving! Here are some questions that might help you find out how you can be a part of what God is doing in this community!
How often would I need to help? | We have found that the easiest schedule for people is to serve every other week to be in a rhythm, but you could do once a month if that works best for you. It’s not about how often we would need you, but that serving helps to grow you spiritually and connect with the community!
What if I get busy and can’t make it? | Our mission at THEHEART is to connect people to the heart of God, and we are able to accomplish that with amazing people like you making the commitment to serve each week! However, we realize that you have a family, a job, and a life outside of church. Things happen. Our goal is not to trap you into anything. Communication is key! As long as you can communicate with your Team Leader or Department Leader, you’re gold!
How long am I committing to help? | We don’t have any 6 month or 1 year commitment that you would need to sign up for. We recommend giving wherever you try a few months to see if it’s something you like to do. But, you aren’t locked into anything!
I don’t have a lot of time during the week, that counts me out right? | No way! There are many different departments and positions that you can have a huge impact with as little as an hour per week. Sundays are a great way to start by showing up a little early or staying a little late. Remember, it’s not about us needing something from you, it’s about what serving can do FOR you! It grows you from the inside out, even if it’s only 1 hour per week.
I don’t know what I’m good at, where would I even help? | You are our absolute favorite! It’s so hard for us to see what we are good at. But, we have amazing leaders that can train you in any of the areas that we have at THEHEART and help you get the skills to do any number of things. We also have some key areas that you can serve in that don’t take any major skills, just a willingness and desire to help! If that’s you, then there are so many ways you can have an impact on this community!
What if I’m not available to help on Sundays? | There are more than a few areas that you could help that are for people that can help during the week. Even if you have a regular 9-5 job, there are ways to help!
Our marketing team could use your help in creating content that they could teach how to write!

Make phone calls and connections with new people that visit THEHEART
Are you the creative type? We can teach you to be, you can help record/edit videos and take photos at events.
